A great way to end an adventurous day in the Algarve is to watch the sunset on the coast or from a viewpoint. Luckily, this beautiful region in Portugal is rich in excellent places where you can watch the sunset, optionally while enjoying a glass of wine during a jeep safari.
Below you will find the top 5 best places to watch the sunset in the Algarve.
1. Farol do Cabo de São Vicente
The Farol do Cabo de São Vicente is a lighthouse located at the most southwestern point of not only Portugal, but all of Europe! Watch the sun set over the sea from the towering cliffs and order “the last sausage before America” from the eponymous food truck in the parking lot.
Please note that this is one of the most popular sunset spots, so it can get quite crowded. Let a local take you to a place where almost no one goes on a sunset jeep safari:

2. Miradouro da Cordoama
The Miradouro da Cordoama viewpoint is also on the west coast and can be found past the village of Vila do Bispo, on top of the cliffs between Praia do Cordoama and Praia do Castelejo. It is also a popular spot for paragliders, so you are likely to see a few soaring past as the sun sets.
The last part of the route is a bit of a bumpy ride, so you can also choose to park the car immediately after the turn-off and walk the last 200 meters.
3. Ponta da Piedade in Lagos
The Ponta da Piedade is a beautiful piece of natures art just outside the town of Lagos. There is an old lighthouse with a boardwalk that leads to various viewpoints over the blue ocean. This is a popular and romantic place to watch the sunset together. Thanks to the enormous parking lot, you don’t have to worry about finding a parking spot.

4. Carrapateira Point
Pontal da Carrapateira is a rocky area north of Praia do Amado. Via an off-road path you wind through this beautiful landscape and you can park at several places along the boardwalk and then walk to viewpoints at the top of high cliffs.
5. Viewpoint of Fóia in Monchique
The Miradouro da Fóia is a viewpoint west of the mountain village of Monchique. You get there by driving a winding road west from Monchique town for fifteen minutes and once at the top you have a beautiful view over the west coast and south coast. An ideal place for a sunset, but also sunrise.
