Get on your (electric) steel horse and explore the breathtaking nature of the Algarve by mountain bike or E-bike! Discover alone or in a group the most beautiful hidden places that the southern Portuguese coast and the interior have to offer. Stay on the paved paths or imagine yourself off-road on unpaved roads for an extra challenge, but also reward.
Stop along the way for a traditional Portuguese lunch or cycle from vineyard to vineyard and taste for yourself how the mineral-rich soil enriches the wine in taste. Rent an E-bike or mountain bike for a day or directly for a whole week and receive an extra discount on the rental.
💡 Tips for renting (E-)mountain bikes in the Algarve (click)
Maybe not the first activity you think of, but (E-)mountain biking is a fun and sporty way to discover the interior of the Algarve. In the hilly landscape you will come via the unpaved roads through old-fashioned villages, viewpoints over the area or you can ride from beach to beach. These are my tips if you want to go (E-)mountain biking.
🚴🏼 Book a guided bike tour the first time. This way you can get used to the landscape, the climate and you will get tips about choosing paths and stops. A guide will of course also know where to find the most beautiful spots.
🚴🏼 Keep in mind that in the Algarve there are no cycle paths like in other countries. Try to avoid main roads where possible. Cars race past here at 90-120 km/h which can be dangerous, especially when it is windy and there are gusts of wind.
🚴🏼 Leave, especially in summer, early in the morning before it gets too hot. Even though there is often wind from the sea, you won’t feel it when you drive between the sheltered hills and in valleys. Also take plenty of water with you, because not every village has a shop or café.

Helmet: As mentioned before, wearing a helmet is mandatory in Portugal, including the Algarve, for all cyclists.
