🍷 Visiting one of the local vineyards in the Algarve is a fun activity, but most of them are difficult to reach without a car. If you go with an organized tour, taxi or Uber, everyone can enjoy themselves to the fullest and you don’t have to draw lots for who will be the designated driver. Near Albufeira there are a number of excellent vineyards that you can visit for a wine tasting. You can choose to drive to one of these vineyards yourself, or book an organised tour, where you will not only visit one or more vineyards, but also see more of the Algarve in one adventure.

During the tour you will learn about the history of the vineyard and what the entire process looks like. Of course, the tour ends with a tasting of white, red and rosé wines.
The journey then continues to historic Silves, where you will take a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets to the impressive Moorish castle – situated at the top of the town.

Wine tastings & vineyard tours in Lagos
Most of the vineyards in the Algarve are located in the center and towards the east of the Algarve. If you have your own transport, such as a cheap rental car , drive from Lagos via the A22 towards Lagoa to visit one of the vineyards there. It is about a half hour drive to most vineyards. Via the N125 it is shorter, but you drive here not as fast as on the A22 toll road. For a tour and tasting, you must book in advance.

After being picked up from your accommodation, this tour will depart to a local winery where you will enjoy three different local wines, accompanied by a plate of tapas with Portuguese cheeses and sausages.
Of course, you will also get a tour of the winery’s production area and see the wooden barrels where the wine is stored.
Next stop is the old Moorish Silves, where you have time to stroll along the cobbled streets towards the red castle.
