1. The old town center of Albufeira

One of the most beautiful sights in Albufeira is the old town. Explore this maze of streets and alleys on foot for an idea of what life was like. look out for the charming windows and old traditional doors before you slide in a pastel de nata from a local bakery.
Keep an eye out for the Shell Bar and a Shell house, you can´t miss it. Near the Museum you will find a really old Gothic doors and an amazing view point down onto the famous fisherman’s beach

2. The Strip (Rua da Oura) of Albufeira

Are you coming for a good party and a night out? Then you’re in the right place the strip is the place where you can find most of the loud Bars Night clubs and Disco that stay open till early hours of the morning like Kiss disco

From the end of the afternoon, the Strip slowly wakes up from a sleepy brunch spot into a club scene as the bass cranks up and touts try to lure you in with a free welcome drink.

Be careful with your belongings, because unfortunately pickpockets are occasionally spotted here.

3. Praia dos Pescadores

Praia dos Pescadores is the most centrally located beach in Albufeira with all the amenities you need for a day of sun & sea. Located between Praia do Peneco and Praia de Albufeira, if you want to stretch your legs you can walk in either direction to take in the cliffs and rock formations.

If you fancy something cold, you can go to one of the bars or restaurants on the beach. In the high season you can rent sunbeds with or without parasols for around 15 euros for the day

4. Albufeira Marina

The Albufeira Marina, with its vibrant colours, serves as the departure point for most organized boat trips in Albufeira. Admire the variety of boats from the terraces and then set sail for a relaxing cruise along the cliffs and remote beaches or to spot dolphin below you will find an overview of all the water and land activities that depart from this port.

5. Ponta da Baleeira

See Albufeira and the iconic rock formations of the Algarve from the Ponta da Baleeira viewpoint, just a short walk from the Albufeira Marina.

Look down at the marina and watch the pleasure boats dock and depart. The fishing boats and local fisherman also getting ready to go out and catch a variety of fish from these vibrant waters you can also spot many species of fish in the waters below.

6. Praia da Oura

Praia da Oura is a small but nice beach that is sheltered by cliffs on the west side. Take your snorkel & diving mask with you as you might spot octopus, squid and plenty of fish.

On the beach itself you will find sunbeds to rent and there are plenty of restaurants on the boulevard where you can find a delicious Portuguese (or international) lunch.

7. Miradouro do Pau da Bandeira

The most iconic viewpoint of Albufeira is the Miradouro do Pau da Bandeira, which can be reached from the beach via an escalator (?!). Here you can look out over Praia dos Pescadores and enjoy the sunset on a bench.

In the distance you can see boats coming and going from the mouth of the harbor and on the other side is Praia de Albufeira and its beautiful adjacent cliffs.

8. Leixão dos Alhos walking route

In the most southeastern corner of Praia de Albufeira, a small walking route over the cliffs starts at a stone staircase that leads you from this beach to Praia dos Aveiros. From the pier and the rocks you can see the center of Albufeira in the distance, which makes for beautiful pictures. Once you walk around the corner, you can go to the Aveiros restaurant for some fine dining and drinks.

9. Observation deck & cat-hotel

This observation deck on the west side of Praia dos Pescadores is a popular viewpoint among visitors and the local cat community. A small cat hotel has been built here where stray cats can sleep and receive food from a charity. You get here by taking the long stairs or the elevator up and taking the first side street on the left. 10. Municipal archeology Museum

The old town hall on the Praça da República is now a archeology museum called Museu Municipal de Arquelogia. Here you can discover the history of the region through an exhibition that covers different historical periods, from prehistory to the early modern period.

Some of the most notable pieces include a 10th-century Islamic silo, prehistoric flint tools, and pieces of mosaic from a Roman house. The entrance costs only 1.30 euros per person and the information is available in Portuguese and English.

11. Art Galery Pintor Samora Barros

In the Galeria de Arte Pintor Samora Barros you can get acquainted with the creations of José Ricardo Júdice Samora Barros. Often called “the painter of the Algarve”, this talented artist from Portugal was best known for his landscape paintings and portraits.

Besides painting, Samora Barros also had a passion for poetry and taught art classes. Interestingly, the museum originally served as a power station. In 1988, this building was repurposed as an art gallery after a thorough renovation.

12. Sacred Art Museum Albufeira

This small but charming museum is housed in the whitewashed old church of São Sebastião. Museu de Arte Sacra de Albufeira, which means: Museum of Sacred Art, was originally built in the 16th century and underwent renovation in the first half of the 18th century. The museum brings together a collection from the churches of Albufeira.

Of the works on display, the highlight goes to the polychromatic altarpiece from the second half of the 18th century, which depicts three images: São Sebastião, São Francisco Xavier and São Domingos, all important figures in the history of the country.

13. Seven hanging valley route

The Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos (The Seven Hanging Valleys Hiking Route) is a beautiful hike along the typical cliffs that make the Algarve so iconic. The walk is about 5.7 kilometers one way and runs from Vale Centianes beach to Praia da Marinha beach.

Near the famous (and must-see!) Benagil cave there is a large unpaved parking lot where you have the best chance of getting a parking space in high season

14. Silves & Silves Castle

Just half an hour’s drive from Albufeira you will find the idyllic inland town of Silves. At the highest point in the center, the Castelo de Silves still stands like a rock in the surf after hundreds of years.

From the sandstone walls you have a beautiful view of the surroundings and you get a taste of what it was like to live there in the time of castles. The entrance is only €2.80 p.p.

The Arade River flows on the south side of the village where you can walk along the banks before being served a delicious Portuguese meal in one of the many Portuguese restaurants in the old town.

15. Sand City Lagoa

If you like sand sculptures, Sand City Lagoa is the place for you. The largest sand sculpture park in the world has several themes, from Asia to Disney, from famous people to fictional characters. There is also a playground and trampoline for the children.

Tip, come in the evening when it is a little cooler and the works of art seem to come to life thanks to the colorful spotlights. Order tickets in advance so you don’t have to queue. The entrance is only €12.00 per person

16. Zoomarine Algarve

A day full of fun for young and old can be found at the Zoomarine Algarve. Water slides, dolphin shows, wave pools, sunbathing areas, snack bars… in this cheerful water park you can easily spend a day (or two) without getting bored.

Book tickets in advance so you don’t have to queue, and also to claim a small online discount. Ticket prices start at €26.00 per person.

17. Algarve Shopping

Algarve Shopping is the largest indoor shopping centre near Albufeira. With over 120 shops, you can easily spend half a day here when the weather is bad (or too hot). From clothing to lifestyle shops, you will find all the well-known and local brands here. There is also a cinema and many international restaurants from McDonalds to sushi.

Underneath the shopping centre is a huge parking garage where you can easily park your rental car.

18. Castelo de Loulé

A half hour drive from Albufeira you will find the village of Loulé where you will find the Castelo de Loulé. This old small castle from the second century was rebuilt in the 18th century and has three large towers that keep watch over the village below.

A nice little attraction that you can combine with a visit to the atmospheric streets of Loulé. From the towers you look out over the area and the entrance fee is less than €2.00 per person.

7. Sunset Jeep Safari from Albufeira

A fun way to explore more of the Algarve’s interior is on this jeep safari that departs from Albufeira. You will be picked up and dropped off at your accommodation and on the way you will go off-road through the interior and pass beautiful places such as Alte and a goji grower. And what better way to finish this amazing day, that with a glass of wine at sunset from a viewpoint.

8. Paragliding behind a boat in Albufeira

Combine a boat trip and paragliding behind a speedboat! This exciting activity involves hanging alone or together on a parachute while being pulled along by a speedboat. From a height of 80 meters, you will have a magnificent view of the ocean and the coastline. You will hang in the air for around 10 minutes per person.

9. Tandem paramotoring flight

See Albufeira from above on a paramotoring adventure! Together with a pilot, you will float through the air on this three-wheeler while being propelled by a huge propeller. It is like being in an airplane, but without doors and windows! The flight lasts about 15 minutes and you fly along the coast and over the interior of this part of the Algarve.

Located just outside the hustle and bustle of the city, this cheerfully decorated new-build apartment is perfect as budget accommodation if you have a car. The only downside is that the bathroom is outside the room (but it’s not shared!).

3. Lost & Found – Guesthouse & Suites

This hidden gem is located a few minutes drive west of Albufeira. There is a nice, friendly atmosphere and if you decide to cook instead of eating out, you can use the large, well-equipped shared kitchen.

4. Staying on a houseboat in the Albufeira Marina

You can’t get any closer to the sea than this! There are a number of cute houseboats on which you can stay in the colorful harbor of Albufeira. Each boat is equipped with a kitchen, air conditioning and a roof terrace with hammock. Don’t worry, the houseboats are moored so you won’t accidentally wake up in Morocco 😉

This old farm has been renovated into a beautiful rural accommodation where you can completely relax. In the restaurant, they use home-made (and self-grown) products for the meals.

6. Spacious stay in an old Palace

Feel like royalty in this nice guest house built in a former 18th century palace. Even though it is located in the heart of Albufeira, it still feels relaxed and peaceful, thanks to the attractive decor and the quiet patio.

1. Café Mané

For a good start to the day, you should go to Café Mané. This tiny brunch cafe has only 6 tables and a bar, but they clearly opt for quality over quantity. Not only is the coffee excellent, but also the smoothies and delicious bagels. They don’t take reservations and it fills up quickly, so arrive on time and be prepared to wait a while in front of the entrance until a table becomes available. 2. Prazeres

Finding a Portuguese restaurant in Albufeira is not difficult, but for an authentic experience combined with good service and a great price tag, Prazeres is the place to be. Go for a fried sea bass, but start with a shared couvert to wet your appetite and try some typical Portuguese bites. In addition to a typical cataplana, they also serve a much-loved paella.

3. Castello di Norcia

Finding a Portuguese restaurant in Albufeira is not difficult, but for an authentic experience combined with something other than Portuguese (or British…), you can go to Castello di Norcia. This Italian restaurant has a beautiful terrace with a view over the harbor. This way you can sit outside the hustle and bustle and the loud speakers of the terraces and you can enjoy an excellent pizza. If you prefer something greener, the Caesar salad is a tasty alternative.
