Zoos in the Algarve
It may not be the first thing you think of when planning your holiday to the Algarve, but there are some great zoos here too. They are a perfect destination to spend a cloudy or windy day, or if you are looking for a change from the many water activities.
Plus, the kids will love watching swinging monkeys, penguins and meerkats in action. Visit the Zoo de Lagos and discover over 140 species of animals in a jungle setting or alternate animal watching with a swim in a pool at the Krazy World zoo.
Both zoos in the Algarve guarantee a half day of fun at a reasonable price. Below you will find more information about the zoos in the Algarve including tips.
💡 Tips for visiting a zoo (click)
Visiting a zoo like Zoo de Lagos or Krazy World is a great activity for when the weather is not perfect for the beach. My girlfriend and I went to Zoo de Lagos on a windy Sunday when there were no waves. To our positive surprise, the animals looked well cared for, most of the enclosures were of high quality and despite it being a Sunday, it was very quiet. Here are our tips for a day full of animal fun:
🐒 Tip 1: Plan your visit to include feeding time. It was amazing to see all the monkeys jumping and screaming with excitement when the zookeeper served bowls of fresh fruit.
🦘Tip 2: Most animals are most active in the morning and at the end of the day. If you want to see more action, it is advisable to come right around opening time or a few hours before closing time.
🦚 Tip 3: You don’t need to bring a packed lunch. In the parks you will find catering establishments where you
can get a toasty or hamburger for a reasonable price.
